Wind
The best seasons for kitesurfing in Watamu are December to March (Kaskazi season) and June to September (Kusi season). The wind blows onshore from the north-northeast, averaging 17–20 knots in winter and 20–25 knots in summer.
Water
Watamu offers the best of both worlds: flat water at low tide, ideal for beginners, and rideable waves behind the reef, just 500 metres from the beach, for those who prefer a bit more challenge.
